Chancay Port, located 80 kilometers north of the Peruvian capital Lima, has officially commenced operations. This key Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) project was independently designed and constructed by China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC).
Efficient and innovative construction
Construction of Chancay Port, including four berths, breakwaters, roads, yards and associated offices, began in June 2021. The port's initial annual capacity will be 1 million TEUs of container throughput, 6 million tons of bulk cargo and 160,000 vehicles.

To overcome tough marine conditions, the team developed an advanced self-mobile piling platform, boosting efficiency on a ratio of close to five, and a remote-controlled piling transport vehicle for stable operations. Equipped with a robot-like walking chassis and telescopic cylinders, it achieved eco-friendly goals of “zero oil leakage” and “zero pollution”.
In addition, a remote-controlled track-based pile transport vehicle was developed. Featuring a custom-built automated control system, this vehicle maintained stability even in adverse marine conditions, ensuring seamless pile transport operations.

The team also innovated in sustainability. By adopting a filler-free vibroflotation technique, vibration levels were reduced by 75 percent, and noise and dust emissions fell well below local standards. Wastewater from daily operations was treated and recycled for vibroflotation, and water flow generated during piling was recovered using pumps. These initiatives reduced daily water consumption by 100 tons, cutting overall usage by more than 25 percent.
Modern equipment and a smart management platform were also utilized to streamline construction and operations, enhance efficiency and integrate sustainable practices such as the use of eco-friendly materials and energy systems.
Empowering local communities
CCCC's efforts at Chancay Port extended beyond constructing robust infrastructure. The company integrated social responsibility into every aspect of port development, contributing to a sustainable community and a shared future for humanity.
The team prioritized marine and wetland ecological preservation. They also undertook initiatives to protect endangered species. Ongoing efforts have ensured the rescue and safe release of various marine species and birds.
To support the local community, the project created more than 3,000 jobs, trained local talent, repaired homes, built retaining walls and enhanced public facilities.
