The No. 14 generator unit of the Baihetan Hydropower Station was connected to the grid on June 21, marking that the world's first 1 million-kilowatt hydrogenerator is ready to start trial grid connection.
The generator unit will undergo various tests to further verify its stability and performance.
Having passed the tests, the generator unit will be ready for the 72-hour trial operation.
Baihetan Hydropower Station is a backbone project of China's west-to-east power transmission project and will support the construction of a clean, low-carbon, safe and highly-efficient energy system.
The first generator units went into operation on July 1, 2021 and the station is scheduled to be in full service in July 2022.
Once fully operational, it is expected to be the world's second-largest hydropower station with an annual power output of 62.44 billion kilowatt-hours. It will play a key role in high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and in realizing China's goal of peaking carbon dioxide emission by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.
