Global Mercy, the world's most advanced civilian hospital ship, was delivered to its buyer – Mercy Ships – on June 16.
With a 12-storey deck, the 174-meter-long and 28.6-meter-wide ship has a designed draft of 6.15 meters and a service speed of 12 knots. It has been classified by Lloyd's Register in the UK.
The vessel is able to accommodate 500 persons while at sea, and can host 950 passengers while berthed at port.
As a hospital ship, it features modern medical equipment and six operating rooms, 200 beds, a laboratory, an ophthalmology department and a dental clinic.
Its living area has facilities including a school, restaurants, cafes, stores, cinemas, banks and so on, earning it the title of "mini water city."
The ship's sellers were China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. and Tianjin Xingang Shipyard, both of which are subsidiaries of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited.
