The "Funing" tunnel boring machine (TBM), the world's first large diameter hard rock TBM with an ultra-small turning radius recently rolled off the production line in Tianjin.
Developed and manufactured by China Railway Engineering Equipment Group Co., Ltd., the 85-meter 1,700-ton machine has an excavation diameter of 9.53 meters and a designed turning radius of 90 meters.
It is to be used in water tunnel construction at the Funing pumped storage power station in Qinhuangdao, North China's Hebei Province.
With a total installed capacity of 1,200 kilowatts, the power station will connect to the power grid of Beijing, Tianjin and northern Hebei to ensure safe and stable operation of the smart ultra high voltage power grid.
The smart power system will help reduce coal consumption in thermal power production, contributing to energy conservation and emission reduction and improving air quality.
