CHEROKEE, the world's largest train transport ship, was delivered to its buyer in Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong Province on June 8.
Completely designed and built by China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited, the ship is 180 meters long, 38.6 meters wide and 16.2 meters high.
The ship has two train decks densely covered with train tracks with a total length of 2,500 meters, enabling it to accommodate 200 train cars with total weight of more than 20,000 tons.
The ship plays a pioneering role in type design, handling mode, train arrangement, and application of an unmanned aerial vehicle cabin, and is expected to be a demonstration for future train transport ships in China.
For example, it is equipped with a track transfer loading and unloading system. Working together with a dedicated lashing facility, the ship can handle 136 train cars within two hours.
It will be used between the United States and Mexico. Compared to road transport, marine transport has only half the distance, which greatly lowers logistics cost and transport time.
