The Chinese characters for "Ezhou", written on the terminal of Ezhou Huahu Airport in Central China's Hubei Province, were illuminated on May 31, a key moment of the airport's construction.
Contracted by China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Group Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of China State Construction Engineering Corporation, the airport will be the world's fourth, Asia's first and China's first specialized cargo airport once operational.
The terminal, one of the main sections of the airport, covers 15,000 square meters and has a total height of 20.5 meters.
About 70 percent of the roof construction has been completed so far, and it is scheduled to be fully finished on June 15. The entire terminal construction is expected to be inspected this September.
The airport is designed to be able to handle as many as 1 million passengers and 2.45 million tons of freight by 2025, and by 2045, the numbers are expected to reach 15 million and more than 7.65 million respectively.
