The Beijing-Xinjiang Expressway, or G7, the world's longest desert highway, was declared ready for operation, after construction was completed on the final section between Barkol and Mori Kazakh autonomous counties in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on May 24.
Linking Beijing and Urumqi, capital city of Xinjiang, the 2,768-kilometer highway is the highest-value single-structured road construction project in Asia.
Upon operation, it will be the most convenient route to reach Urumqi in North China.
China Railway Construction Corporation Limited was responsible for the project.
