CRCC Supports Preschool Education in Tibet

Updated: 2021-06-10

Twenty-eight rural kindergartens at the Samdrubze district in Shigatse, Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region opened for the first time on May 31, the day before International Children's Day, as a special gift for local children.

Funded and built by China Railway 14th Bureau Group Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited, the kindergartens have a frame structure that can withstand an 8-magnitude earthquake.

Covering at least 183 square meters each, the kindergartens feature activity rooms, dormitories, and kitchens and were built following the principle of green, environmentally-protective and healthy construction, making them ideal for children's education.

During construction, machinery and workers were rented and recruited from local areas, which increased local income by more than 2 million yuan ($314,000).

At the launch ceremony of the kindergartens, local people showed their appreciation and happiness to the builders by presenting them Hada and offering them buttered tea.

According to a teacher at the kindergarten, very few people received higher education in some remote villages in the region. There were no village kindergartens in the past, making it hard for local children to catch up with others when they started schooling and led to a reluctance to take up further study.

The new kindergartens are expected to offer preschool education for all children aged from three to six in Samdrubze.
