China-Russia Nuclear Power Plant Project Breaks Ground in Northeast China

Updated: 2021-06-07

Construction of the Xudapu nuclear power plant in Huludao, Northeast China's Liaoning Province, began on May 19.

A result of China-Russia energy cooperation, the project includes the construction of six 1 million-kilowatt nuclear power generator units.

With a total investment of 51.5 billion yuan ($8.06 billion), the No. 3 and No. 4 generator units comprise the highest-value government-funded project in Liaoning during China's 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25).

The two units are expected to produce more than 18 billion kilowatt-hours of power annually, equal to burning 5.13 million tons of coal, which helps assure energy security and optimize the energy structure.

POWERCHINA Nuclear Engineering Company Limited will be responsible for the BOP construction of the No. 3 and No. 4 generator units.
