State Grid Contributes to Saudi's Grid Renovation

Updated: 2021-06-01

State Grid Corporation of China (State Grid)'s project of installation of 5 million smart ammeters and related supporting systems in nine regions in Saudi Arabia has been completed, and is expected to contribute to the country's smart power grid and smart city construction.

The project used a double-pattern networking mode and adopted a different information forwarding and communication system than that used in China in consideration of the special electrical environment and local climate, and the scattered population in Saudi Arabia.

The innovative mode and technologies allowed workers to install as many as 60,000 ammeters daily, a huge increase from 2,000 at the beginning of the project.

A local installation engineer said that the power grid company in Saudi Arabia previously had to go door-to-door to record power information every month and the data statistics would take several days.

"The information can be automatically integrated now with the China-made smart ammeters, which greatly improves work efficiency".

It's worth mentioning that the project has created more than 5,000 jobs and cultivated local talents.

The head of the on-site engineering of the project said that he learned advanced power technologies and improved his management and coordination ability during the project.
