CTG in Brazil Realizes Carbon Neutrality

CTG Brasil, the Brazilian branch of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), completely realized its carbon neutrality goal in 2019, according to its recently-released 2020 sustainable development report.

The report indicates that the direct carbon emissions from the company's office area and of its power plants were 1,691.79 tons in 2019, all of which were eliminated through a forest conservation project in Vale do Jari.

The project covers the Para and Amapa states and aims to reduce deforestation and degradation in the target areas as assessed by the Forest Stewardship Council of Brazil. It also provides sustainable production technological support to some small-scale agricultural producers.

Also in 2019, the company obtained the Gold Seal from the Brazil Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol Program.

The report shows that the company was operating projects with a total installed capacity of 8.3 million kilowatts by the end of 2020, which were capable of producing 28.7 billion kilowatt-hours annually.

What's more, the report includes detailed data of the company's performances in operation, environmental protection, fulfillment of social responsibility, and business enterprise governance, in accordance with the latest standards of the Global Reporting Initiative.

Adhering to the principle of sustainable development, CTG Brasil has been acting on its environmental protection beliefs by providing clean energy, which contributes to cutting down carbon emissions.

By the end of 2020, the company had invested 37 million Brazilian real in social development and environmental protection projects, a year-on-year growth of 24 percent.

At present, the company is undergoing statistical work on carbon emissions in 2020, which is scheduled to be completed in the second half of 2021.
