The Nam Ou River Cascade Hydropower Project's first, third and fourth plants in Laos were issued with certificates of completion by the Laos government on April 28.
Invested and built by Power Construction Corporation of China, it is the company's first overseas project to obtain development rights over a whole river basin.
It is also a major project in the construction of the "battery of Southeast Asia" and is expected to improve the livelihoods of local people in northern Laos.
With a total investment of about $2.8 billion, the project includes the construction of seven cascade hydropower plants with a total installed capacity of more than 1.27 million kilowatts.
The second, fifth and sixth plants went into operation in 2017 and the other four are scheduled for completion by November 2021.
