The last generator unit of the Qianwei navigation-power junction on China's Minjiang River completed a 72-hour trial operation on April 26.
The largest tubular turbine generator unit group in Asia, Qianwei navigation-power junction is installed with nine tubular turbine generator units, each of them capable of producing more than 400 million kilowatts of power annually.
Once fully operable, the project is expected to generate 2.2 billion kWh of power annually, which is enough for the annual power demand of nearly 540,000 households.
The amount equals that produced by burning more than 700,000 metric tons of standard coal, eliminating more than 10,000 tons of sulfur dioxide and 2 million tons of carbon dioxide.
The project is mainly used for shipment and is also expected to contribute to power generation, water supply and irrigation.
It was one of the first projects under the framework of the comprehensive transportation corridor along the Yangtze River Economic Belt and is a major move to promote involvement of Southwest China's Sichuan Province into the Belt and Road Initiative and Yangtze River Economic Belt development.
Sinohydro Bureau 7 Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China, was responsible for construction of the project.
