Construction of First Clean Energy Transmission Pipeline to Xiongan New Area Kicks off

Updated: 2021-04-23

Construction of the first clean energy transmission pipeline to Xiongan New Area in North China's Hebei Province, a hinterland of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei's Baoding, started on April 13.

The first section of the pipeline starts from the liquefied natural gas (LNG) port distribution station in Tianjin and terminates at the Dingxing distribution station in Baoding, and is expected to supply clean energy directly to the Xiongan New Area.

With an investment of 8.6 billion yuan ($1.32 billion), the 413.5-kilometer section includes construction of eight new stations, 19 valve houses and one control room as well as renovation of one station.

The section is expected to be capable of transmitting 6.6 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually.

A major domestic natural gas infrastructure project, the newly-built pipeline is designed to connect with other national natural gas pipelines, an arrangement expected to optimize natural gas infrastructure layout in the Circum-Bohai Sea region and to boost the natural gas production, supply, storage and sales system in North China.

Once operational, three kinds of gas, namely the LNG in Tianjin, the coal-bed methane in Shanxi Province and the substitute natural gas produced in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, will be transmitted through the pipeline.

In addition, the pipeline will greatly improve clean energy supply to the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and contribute to bridging the international natural gas supply market and the domestic consumption market.

PipeChina is responsible for the project.
