Construction of China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec Group)'s first hydrogen station in Southwest China's Chongqing started on April 8.
The facility is scheduled to open for service in four months and it will have a daily hydrogenation-production capacity of 1,000 kilograms.
The station is expected to boost hydrogen vehicle manufacturing and support the development of the city's hydrogen energy industry.
Sinopec Group is currently implementing strategic energy transformation projects it signed with the local government. It will increase investment in the hydrogen industry and aims to build 30 hydrogen stations in Chongqing in the next five years, which will contribute to the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing hydrogen-power corridor.
The company is now concentrating on building a full hydrogen industrial chain. It has made breakthroughs in such fields as hydrogen stations, hydrogen production, hydrogen-fuel batteries and hydrogen storage materials.
At present, Sinopec Group is capable of producing more than 3.5 million metric tons of hydrogen annually, accounting for about 14 percent of the national total. It has built high-purity hydrogen production facilities and hydrogen supply centers in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangdong province.
The company is also preparing to build hydrogen stations in Guangdong, Zhejiang and Guizhou provinces, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Shanghai.
During China's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, the company plans to build 1,000 hydrogen stations and oil and hydrogen stations.
