The first self-service vending machines offering digital yuan (e-CNY) services recently opened in Changsha, Central China's Hunan Province.
They were developed by CEC Industrial Internet, a subsidiary of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC), which was selected as a pilot enterprise to develop e-CNY in Hunan in 2020.
E-CNY has been developed to be used in quite a few payment situations like shopping, catering, traveling, gas refueling and posting. The newly launched self-service retailing e-CNY brings the use of the digital yuan even closer to people's lives.
In the future, e-CNY will be available on nearly 1,000 self-service vending machines in Changsha and is intended to be used in hospitals, schools and neighborhoods.
It will also be promoted for consumption-driven poverty alleviation projects to support sales of agricultural products, contributing to consolidation of poverty alleviation achievements and rural vitalization.
