A new type of 85,000-ton bulk cargo ship, independently designed by a Chinese state-owned enterprise, made its debut on March 26.
Developed by CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Company Limited, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC), the ship is 228.9 meters long, 36 meters wide and 20.15 meters high.
With a scantling draft of 14 meters and a load capacity of about 85,000 metric tons, the ship meets the latest oxynitride and oxysulfide emission standards and the new requirements for Panama Canal transit, as well as the latest criterion on vibration and noise and green and environmental protection standards and rules.
According to model test data of the Shanghai Ship and Shipping Research Institute and the Hamburgische Schffbau -Versuchsanstalt GmbH, the ship has the lowest linear resistance of vessels of its kind.
The ship is expected to operate as fast as 14.3 nautical miles per hour and transport about 25.2 tons a day. It can hold as much as 106,000 cubic meters of freight like coal, minerals, grain and concrete, more than other ships now in operation.
