China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (Energy China Group) will contribute to development of the Balakot Hydropower Station project in Pakistan.
The consortium of China Gezhouba Group Corporation, a subsidiary of Energy China Group, and Pakistan-based Ghulam Rasool & Company recently signed an EPC contract valued at nearly 3.34 billion yuan ($511.25 million) with the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO) to participate in construction of the Balakot Hydropower Station.
Located over the Kunhar River in Mansehra District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan, the project is the largest of its kind in the PEDO's plan and was funded by the Asian Development Bank.
The consortium will be responsible for design, installation and engineering of the concrete gravity dam, the sand sluicing hole on the right bank of the river, and the power generation and water diversion systems.
Once in operation, the station is expected to relieve local power shortages, improve utilization of clean energy and drive social and economic development in the country.
