China's Deep-Sea Manned Submersible Gets a New Home

Updated: 2021-03-19

China's domestically-developed deep-sea manned submersible Fendouzhe, also known as Striver, was delivered to the Institute of Deep-sea Science and Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on March 16.

The construction of the submersible was a major project during China's 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) period. It succeeded in a 10,000-meter deep-sea diving operation in the Mariana Trench in November 2020, setting a new record by submerging 10,909 meters.

China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited will be responsible for the future operation, management and maintenance of the submersible.
