China's BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS-3) has been in sound operation since its initiation, providing high-quality service to global users.
Regional and global BDS-3 short message communication is now available and proving its worth.
The satellite-based and ground-based augmentation services are in trial operation in fields like civil aviation, maritime affairs and railways, providing dynamic real-time and static post-processing positioning.
The precise point positioning has been used in precision agriculture, land measurement and automatic driving.
Its application in international search and rescue is also underway.
Basic products of the China-made BDS-3 system have been exported to more than 120 countries and regions.
Based on the functions in land right confirmation, precision agriculture, digital engineering and smart ports in ASEAN, South and West Asia, East Europe and Africa, the products have contributed to local economic and social development and supported implementation of China's Belt and Road Initiative.
Relevant departments in China are making efforts to improve operation and maintenance as well as emergency response of the whole system to ensure reliability, safety and quality.
During the country's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, governments at all levels will improve technological innovation and achieve breakthroughs in application of the BDS-3 system.
The main manufacturers involved will promote a coordinated, achievement-sharing and market-oriented mode to develop the BDS-3 business domestically and abroad.
Application of the system in cutting-edge technologies like the internet of things, unmanned driving, artificial intelligence, 5G-based communications and blockchain will also be encouraged to give birth to new business patterns and industries.
A legal background normalizing industrial development, protecting intellectual property rights and optimizing investment and financing environments will also be highlights in the next five years.
All parties will strive to increase the gross output of China's satellite navigation and positioning service with a target of exceeding 1 trillion yuan ($153.5 billion) by the end of 2025.
Construction of the national comprehensive positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) system is now underway.
A more integrated and intelligent China-built PNT system is scheduled for completion by 2035.
The system will cover all areas including the ground, the air, and the sea with high-precision, security, intelligentization, flexibility and efficiency.
