The water works of Sokhna's second container terminal in Egypt were completed with the recent delivery of the hand-over certificate to the contractor.
Located in Egypt's Suez Canal Economic Zone, the project was designed and constructed by China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd., a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company Limited.
It included dredging and construction of a foundation and the terminal structure as well as bank protection work and engineering of supporting facilities.
The bottom of the harbor basin was 1,200 meters long and 250 meters wide. With a depth of 20 meters it was a super-large and deep coastal foundation excavation project.
Once operable, the terminal will greatly improve the freight handling capacity of Sokhna Port and the Suez Canal Economic Zone.
It is also expected to make logistics and traffic in affected areas more convenient, boosting construction of the Suez Canal and promoting economic and social development in Egypt.
