First Chinese Standard Double-Track Railway in West Africa Linked to Nigeria's Largest Port

The Lagos-Ibadan railway in Nigeria was linked to the Port of Apapa, the largest port in the country, on Jan 25, 2021 as the last 25-meter upper track bed completed concreting.

With serried underground pipelines and high groundwater levels, the area through which the 8.72-kilometer railway section to Apapa winds has complicated geological conditions and many difficulties to remove buildings.

China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, a subsidiary of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited, was responsible for construction of the section.

The section is expected to be a major passage for freight transportation between the port and other regions. It will also benefit operations all along the Lagos-Ibadan railway.

The first double-track railway in West Africa built to Chinese standards, the railway runs between Lagos, Africa's largest city, and the important industrial region of Ibadan.
