Construction of Asia's Largest Ice-Sports Training Base Completed

Updated: 2021-02-07

Construction of the Beijing Ice Training Base project in Yanqing district was recently completed and the base will soon open. It is expected to be the largest of its kind in Asia.

With a building area of about 87,000 square meters, it consists of a comprehensive training hall, a teaching and management building and other supporting facilities.

It is also equipped with facilities for physical and professional training, scientific research and teaching, medical rehabilitation, catering and dorms as well as an underground parking lot.

Various green building technologies were adopted during construction of the project.

Ethylene glycol and purified water are used to make ice for the rinks and a 1,500-cubic meter reservoir was built to collect rain water and water plants in the base after treatment.

The ground source heat pump technology used for the indoor heating system will reduce energy consumption.

What's more, the base deploys such unconventional designs and technologies as a smart large-space fire fighting system, a siphonic drainage system and sponge city technology.

Designed by China North Industries Group Corporation Limited, the base was built to the standards of the Winter Olympic Games. It will be used by the national teams and as a supporting training venue for the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

In the future, it will be open to the public.
