Boten-Vientiane Section of China-Laos Railway Completes All Bridge Erection

Updated: 2021-02-03

Erection of all bridges of the Boten-Vientiane section of China-Laos Railway was completed on Jan 26, 2021 as the last T-shaped beam was placed on a grand bridge in Oudomxay Province, Laos.

A result of the Belt and Road Initiative and a symbol of China-Laos friendship, the China-Laos railway is a main passage to realize connectivity and co-development between China, Laos and the ASEAN. It is also expected to promote Laos goal of turning from a land-locked country to a land-linked one.

With a designed speed of 160 kilometers per hour, the electrified freight-passenger railway built to Chinese standards with Chinese technologies is scheduled to start service in December 2021.
