The first phase of the 2×660MW Payra ultra-supercritical coal-fired project in Bangladesh recently obtained overall operation certification, bringing a close to the first overseas project invested, built and operated by China General Technology.
With an installed capacity of 1,320 megawatts, the largest in Bangladesh, the project is a major part of China's Belt and Road Initiative and the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor.
It is designed to be in service for 25 years and is expected to produce 8.5 billion kWh of power annually, accounting for 10 percent of the power generated in the country.
The project is expected to contribute to power supply in affected areas, support local livelihoods and boost regional economic development.
