World's First Elevated Turbo Generator Unit Goes into Operation

Updated: 2020-12-29

The world's first high-level arranged turbo generator unit was put into service after a 168-hour full-load trial operation at Shenhua Guohua Jinjie power station of China Energy Investment Corporation in Shaanxi province on Dec 23.

Completely developed by a Chinese enterprise, the project is a major part of the national air pollution control action plan and the 13th five-year plan (2016-20) of Shaanxi.

The newly operated generator unit is placed at a height of 65 meters, which improves heating efficiency and adjustment performance by shortening high-temperature and high-pressure metallic conduits.

The setting is expected to provide support to development of 700℃ ultra-critical coal-fired power generation technology and promote power industrial upgrading around the world.

The operation of the unit will also contribute to construction of China's clean, low-carbon, safe and highly-efficient energy system and the new development pattern in which domestic and international circulations reinforce each other.

The recently operational part of the station is the No. 5 generator unit. Its construction began on May 28, 2018.

Shenhua Guohua Jinjie power station is a typical coal-electricity integration project in China and a major power source of the north passage of the country's west-to-east power transmission project.

The first and second phase of the station went into operation in 2008 and has transferred nearly 200 billion kWh of power to the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

The No. 6 unit is to start operation soon and the total installed capacity of the station will reach 3,720MW when another two 660MW units of the third phase go into service.

By then, the station is expected to have transmitted more than 19 billion kWh of clean power to other regions annually.
