China Delivers Microsatellite to Ethiopia for Climate Change Research

A ceremony was recently held in Beijing to hand over a microsatellite for climate change research to Ethiopia.

With South-South cooperation financial support, the microsatellite, Ethiopia's first of its kind, was launched from Taiyuan, North China's Shanxi province on Dec 20, 2019 by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China.

It was the first satellite of its kind developed by the China Academy of Space Technology for export.

For a year after the satellite was launched, scientific researchers in China and Ethiopia had worked together to improve systems to provide accurate data for monitoring droughts, floods, water resources and changes of the forestry area in Ethiopia.

The project is intended to improve China's involvement in South-South cooperation in the field of climate change and deepen bilateral relations between China and Ethiopia.

A Chinese solution to climate change and China-Africa aviation cooperation, the project is also expected to play a role in promoting the Belt and Road Initiative and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
