The Lagos-Ibadan railway in Nigeria, the first double-track railway built to Chinese standards in West Africa, went into trial operation on Dec 7.
Running between Lagos, Africa's largest city, and the important industrial region of Ibadan, the 156-kilometer railway has a maximum designed speed of 150 kilometers per hour.
China-made electric multiple-unit trains are being used in the trial operation.
When the railway officially starts operation travel time between the two cities will be shortened to two hours.
