Construction of the second phase of vibro-replacement stone columns of the Lawa hydropower station's cofferdam foundation over the Jinsha River in Southwest China's Sichuan province is now underway.
The foundation columns are expected to be the deepest of their kind in the world.
Contracted by Sinohydro Foundation Engineering Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA), the project is intended to build 70-meter vibro piles to guarantee stability of the 60-meter cofferdam and excavation slope of the station.
It is a key part of construction of the Lawa hydropower station.
The station is a main hydropower project for boosting poverty alleviation in extremely impoverished areas and will contribute to improving China's energy structure and building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.
