Updated: 2020-12-16

China Mobile Communications Group Co., Ltd. (China Mobile) and Tianjin municipality signed an agreement on Dec 10 to promote the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and build Tianjin into a 5G-based city.

The parties will make full use of such technologies as big data, the internet of things, cloud computing and blockchain to improve the capacity and level of Tianjin's digital infrastructure.

According to the agreement, China Mobile will invest about 12 billion yuan ($1.83 billion) in communication infrastructure during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25).

The company plans to build 25,000 5G base stations by the end of 2025, fully covering the city with 5G internet.

In addition, it will make efforts to construct a 5G-based smart city, which will include increasing involvement of technologies like 5G internet, cloud computing and big data in governmental functions to improve comprehensive urban governance and provide more than 300 5G application solutions in manufacturing, medical care, education, transportation and energy.
